AI joke generator FAQ
What is Shutap?+
Shutap is an AI joke generator for creators. Write your story and it turns it into a bit — hook, setup, tags and a button — then runs it in the teleprompter, lays it out as a scene, or formats it as a screenplay page. Around the tool, Shutap also gives you a daily idea of what to post, a series called The funniest that breaks down the techniques of funny people, and an in-house joke dataset the Shutap team writes, selects and rates, never from users.
What is Shutap's goal?+
To help people say it funnier. Humor is a form of wisdom, and the people who use it well are listened to. The AI joke generator for creators is the tool available today. Over time we want to bring the same idea to more of how people speak and tell stories.
Will Shutap steal my jokes or ideas?+
No. You own what you write and what you keep, and we don't claim your ideas or use them in our own content. Your stories and bits stay private unless you post them to a room. They are never published for search, never added to the Shutap joke dataset, never sold, and Shutap never uses them to train AI models.
Does Shutap steal or plagiarize other people's jokes?+
No. Writing a bit doesn't search the internet or pull from a library of other people's jokes, and no comedian's lines are in Shutap's instructions. Every bit starts from the story you type, and the writing instructions tell the AI to drop any tag that would work just as well on someone else's story, so what comes back is built from your details. The tools it writes with are basic comedy craft, like a detail made one notch too specific or an everyday object given a life of its own. Nobody owns those, the same way nobody owns a rhyme. The AI models underneath were trained by Google and OpenAI, not by us, and AI can land near an existing joke by accident, so check anything you rely on commercially. If you find your material on Shutap, send a copyright notice to hello@shutap.com and we'll review it and remove what infringes.
Does anyone at Shutap read what I write?+
No. Shutap staff don't read the text of your stories or bits, except to fix a problem you report or when the law requires it. AI models do the writing, and your bits are visible only to you unless you post them; a post in a room is public, and we review it if someone reports it.
Isn't using AI for comedy a shortcut?+
It's a first draft, not an act. It starts from your story, which nobody else has, and the rest is your work: pick the tag that lands, cut what doesn't, mix in your own lines. Study the craft in The funniest at shutap.com/funniest, which breaks down how funny people do it into techniques you can try. Get a spark from what to post today on the homepage, with a fresh hook, sample bit and tag every day, and see what other writers post in rooms. Then rehearse on the teleprompter until it sounds like you. You decide what stays.
Is Shutap a free joke generator?+
Yes. Your first bit each day needs no account, and you see the whole bit. Signing in is free: it lets you rewrite and save that bit, gives you 2 new bits a day, keeps every bit in your set list, and lets you post. Rewrites (hotter, tighter, mix, tag swap) are always free. Free saves carry a Shutap watermark. Basic ($1.99 a month) gives 5 bits a day with no watermark; Pro ($7.99 a month) gives unlimited bits, no watermark and the Mirror.
How is Shutap different from other AI joke generators?+
Most joke generators write generic one-liners about a topic. Shutap writes a full bit from your actual story, using your details, and you steer it: hotter, tighter, escalate, or mix your own lines. It runs the bit as a teleprompter, a scene and a screenplay page. Around the tool, it also gives you a daily idea of what to post, a series called The funniest that teaches the techniques of funny people, and an in-house joke dataset the Shutap team writes, selects and rates, never from users. To our knowledge, no other joke tool pairs all of these.
Can comedians use Shutap to write stand-up?+
Yes. Write a premise or a story from your life and use the bit as a first draft: find a tag, a callback or a new direction, then rehearse it on the prompter. The final bit is still yours to shape and perform.
What is Shutap Enterprise?+
Shutap Enterprise brings original, human-steered humor to the way companies speak: presentations and slides, roadshows and investor pitches, product demos and launches, and meetings and conversations. It is written from your own material, and your speakers stay in control of every line. It is in development.
Is my real name on anything?+
Your profile and posts show the name and picture from your Google or Apple sign-in, or a name made from your email address if you sign in with email. You can change both in your profile; new posts use your current name. Names, addresses, places, phone numbers and emails are removed from your stories before they're saved, though the automatic removal can miss things, and bits stay private unless you post them.
