AI roast generators compared, and how to roast a situation

Most AI roast generators take a photo or a description of a person and return a few savage lines, usually with a style menu and an intensity dial. That's fun for a group chat and risky anywhere else. To roast a situation instead, like the landlord's text or the meeting that ran long, start from what happened, not who it happened to. Shutap's roast voice works that way, with the draft yours to rewrite.

What most AI roast generators do

Search for an AI roast generator and you'll mostly find two kinds of tool. Phone apps that roast a selfie or a friend's photo, and free web pages with one text box for a name or description. Nearly all of them aim at a person. Settings are a style menu (savage, Shakespearean, pirate, Gen Z) plus some kind of intensity or creativity dial, and you get three to five lines per go. None of the ones below ask a follow-up question about what you typed, so the lines are only as specific as your input.

Photo roast apps on iOS

The App Store has several apps called some version of Roast Bot. Lit Games' Roast Bot takes a description, a photo or a message to clap back at, offers 13 roast styles in 10 languages, and lists a free tier with daily credits plus Premium from $1.99 a week. Monroy Industries' Roast Bot takes a photo, chat screenshot or idea, with a tone from mild to nuclear, ten free roasts and unlimited from $1.99 a week. Creator View's Roast App is photo-only, returns at least five roasts per photo, and has a burn-level setting. Their age ratings run from 4+ to 16+.

Free web roast tools

AIFreeBox's AI Roast Generator is free with no sign-up, per its page. One text box, 17 style presets such as Dry British Humor and Techie & Nerdy, a creativity slider from 1 to 10, and output in many languages. Its page asks you to avoid personal tragedies and health issues. SEOroast, which mainly sells SEO video audits, also hosts a roast generator: 500 characters in, three roasts out, six styles, and a note to keep it playful and not use it for harassment. Tars has a Roast AI app that builds roasts from someone's personality, quirks and hobbies, marketed to comedians.

ChatGPT, Claude and other chatbots

General assistants will roast nearly anything you describe, and each lists a free plan. They're better than one-box tools at taking detail, because you can paste a whole story and push back on the result. The usual problem is the opposite of savage: they hedge, soften and explain. If you use one, ask for lines that each end on an image, aimed at a habit or a choice, and tell it to skip the disclaimers. Then throw away anything that would work on a stranger.

Roasting a situation instead of a person

The best roasts at a party aim at what someone chose. The best roasts online often aim at a situation: the group project, the airline, the HOA, the coworker who replies-all. Compare. Person roast: "Your haircut looks like a lost bet." Situation roast: "The airline moved my flight four times. At this point the flight and I are just two people who used to know each other." The second needs no target in the room, and it gives the viewer something to see. It's also a lot harder to get from a selfie app.

Shutap's roast voice

Shutap, the AI joke generator for creators, starts from a story rather than a photo. You write what happened, pick the roast voice (or deadpan, storyteller or dry), choose a length from 15 seconds to 2 minutes and how wild, from 1 (true to your story) to 5 (goes wild), and get a draft of the bit with a hook, setup, tags and a button. The jokes go at the situation and how people behaved in it, not at your body or anyone's looks. The draft runs in a teleprompter or as a scene for filming. Your first bit needs no account, and every line is yours to cut or rewrite.

Which roast tool to use

A quick laugh at a friend's selfie, with their blessing: one of the photo apps, on a free tier first. A one-off roast line with zero setup: AIFreeBox or another free text tool. A wedding or birthday roast with real history: a chatbot to brainstorm, then write it yourself from the habits everyone in the room knows. A video about something that happened to you, roasting the situation: Shutap. And whatever you use, read the lines out loud before you post. If one only works because it's mean, it doesn't work.

Where AI roasts go wrong

Generic lines are the first failure. "You're so slow" could be about anyone, so nobody laughs. The second is aiming at things people can't change: bodies, looks, health, identity. Several of these tools add a disclaimer about exactly that, and it's good advice. The third is posting a roast of a real, named person who didn't sign up for it. Keep roasts about choices, about situations, or about yourself. A roast that the target would retell next week is the goal. Anything else is just an insult with a style preset.

Questions people ask

What is the best AI roast generator?

It depends on the input. For a friend's photo, iOS apps like Roast Bot are built for it. For a free one-line roast, AIFreeBox has no sign-up. To roast a situation from your own story as a video bit, Shutap's roast voice is designed for that.

Is there a free AI roast generator?

Yes. AIFreeBox's AI Roast Generator says it's free with no sign-up, most iOS roast apps have limited free roasts, ChatGPT and Claude have free plans, and Shutap's first bit needs no account, with 2 a day free once you sign in.

Can ChatGPT roast me?

Yes. Describe yourself or paste a story and ask for a roast. It tends to soften the lines, so ask for specific, visual jokes about choices and habits, and tell it to skip the disclaimers.

How do I roast a situation instead of a person?

Start from what happened and find what's absurd about it: a rule nobody follows, an object that seems to have opinions, a number that's oddly specific. Aim the joke at the situation and people's choices in it, not at anyone's looks.

Are AI roast apps safe to use on friends?

Only with their go-ahead. Photo roasts often land on looks, which can sting more than you expect. Ask first, keep it to choices and habits, and don't post roasts of people who didn't agree to be roasted.
